Youth charity rocks the recession in 3D

Phil Collins, Mike & The Mechanics, Alison Moyet and Keane’s Tom Chaplin join the star-studded line up for The Prince’s Trust Rock Gala 2010 supported by Novae Group plc.

The full line-up includes music legends Eric Clapton, Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor, Tom Jones, Jools Holland, Mark King, Status Quo and Midge Ure who will be collaborating with music stars, including Paolo Nutini, Jamie Cullum and Paloma Faith.

The music extravaganza, which will be filmed in 3D, will be hosted by comedians Rob Brydon and Barry Humphries as Dame Edna Everage, taking place at the Royal Albert Hall, London on Wednesday 17 November 2010.

The Rock Galas of the 80’s were formed when the UK economy was gripped by inflation, strikes and high unemployment following recession. Britain’s youth had little hope and no future. The Trust called upon supporters including Phil Collins, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Brian May and Tina Turner to form ‘super groups’, raising money to help the most disadvantaged young people.

Prince’s Trust ambassador Brian May comments: “Our last performance at the Rock Gala had one aim…to raise money for youngsters struggling to find work after a recession. Unfortunately we find ourselves in the same situation twenty years on and I’m helping the best way I know how.”

“We are thrilled to have the support of ambassadors like Brian May and Jools Holland,” says Martina Milburn, Chief Executive of The Prince’s Trust. “The money raised will allow us to make massive changes to the lives of thousands of young people during a very difficult time”.

Piano legend Jools Holland says:  “I’m very much looking forward to performing at this event in the magical Royal Albert Hall which will be packed with musical legends and newies alike!”

The Prince’s Trust Rock Gala 2010 will be broadcasted on Sunday 19 December 2010 on Sky 3D (Sky Channel 217).
